Design Development & Brief

The client commissioned a bold statement ring centred around a large pear-cut amethyst selected from our gemstone collection.

Drawing inspiration from Celtic knotwork and traditional jewellery craftsmanship, Matthew developed a design that combined yellow and white gold with intricate shoulder detailing. Smaller inherited stones were incorporated into the design, adding personal meaning while enhancing the structure and detail of the ring.

The shoulders were designed around a Celtic-inspired pattern, with diamond-set accents and rope-style claw details used to frame the amethyst and showcase its size, colour and presence.

The design was developed around the scale and colour of the pear-cut amethyst, with Celtic-inspired shoulder details used to incorporate inherited stones into the final ring.

Inside the Workshop

Rather than relying on a cast design, each element of this ring was fabricated and assembled by hand.

The yellow gold structure, white gold details and Celtic-inspired shoulders were individually shaped and fitted, while the rope-style claws and gallery were carefully constructed to complement the large centre stone. The inherited stones were then set into the shoulders before the final amethyst was secured and the ring was polished and refined.

The Finished Piece

The finished ring is bold, detailed and highly personal.

The large pear-cut amethyst gives the piece colour and drama, while the Celtic-inspired shoulder design adds movement, texture and meaning. By combining inherited stones with a centre stone selected specifically for the project, the finished ring became a one-of-a-kind cocktail ring with strong character from every angle.
