Handmade Art Deco Platinum Ring
A handmade platinum Art Deco dress ring featuring 20 custom-cut sapphires and 33 diamonds, including family diamonds recycled from sentimental jewellery.
Designed as a one-of-a-kind heirloom piece, the ring combines vintage-inspired detailing, hand fabrication and extensive individual stone setting. More than 70 hours of craftsmanship went into creating the finished piece.
Design Development & Brief
The client wanted a statement Art Deco dress ring that incorporated diamonds from several sentimental family pieces, while still feeling refined, balanced and wearable.
Matthew explored multiple design concepts before developing the final layout. The design needed to honour the client’s existing diamonds while creating something entirely new, with strong Art Deco influence, layered detail and a sense of movement across the hand.
To bring colour and contrast into the piece, a matching suite of blue sapphires was sourced and custom-cut specifically for the design. The sapphires were graduated to follow the sweeping curves of the ring, framing the central diamond and adding depth to the platinum setting.
This ring was fabricated and assembled by hand at the bench. The platinum structure was built in stages, with each setting prepared individually before the gemstones were fitted and secured.
The custom-cut sapphires needed to sit precisely along the curved sections of the design, while the family diamonds were arranged to create balance, symmetry and visual movement. The level of detail required extensive hand fabrication, fitting, soldering, refining and stone setting.
More than 70 hours of work went into the finished ring.

The Finished Piece
The finished ring is bold, intricate and deeply personal. The platinum setting gives the piece strength and brightness, while the blue sapphires create contrast against the diamonds.
By combining the client’s family diamonds with custom-cut sapphires and traditional hand fabrication, Matthew created a new heirloom with strong Art Deco character and a story carried through every stone.

One-of-a-kind heirloom piece
This project transformed sentimental family diamonds into a new heirloom, combining personal history with highly detailed Art Deco-inspired design.
The ring required extensive hand fabrication, individual stone fitting and precise stone setting. Each sapphire was custom cut to suit the curves of the design, while the recycled family diamonds were carefully arranged to create balance, sparkle and movement across the piece.
The result is a distinctive platinum dress ring that could not be replicated through standard production methods.
