Handcrafted from sketch to completion, the ring features intricate pierced metalwork, diamond-set details and vintage-inspired styling, creating a distinctive engagement ring designed around an extraordinary gemstone.

Design Development & Brief

The clients were looking for a one-of-a-kind engagement ring with a distinctive coloured gemstone and an Art Deco feel.

They were drawn to a rare colour-change marquise garnet from Matthew’s gemstone collection, and the design evolved around the shape, colour and character of that stone. From there, the rose gold setting, pierced metalwork and diamond details were carefully developed to frame the garnet without overwhelming it.

One of the most distinctive features of the piece is the colour-change garnet, which shifts dramatically under different lighting conditions.

The colour-change garnet shifts noticeably under different lighting conditions, moving between deep blue-green and reddish-purple tones.

Inside the Workshop

This ring was created using a combination of traditional bench techniques and modern precision tools.

Beginning as a hand-drawn concept, the design was pierced, fabricated and assembled by hand, with each component individually shaped, fitted and finished in our Queensland workshop. The pierced gallery and diamond-set details required careful planning so the finished ring would feel intricate, balanced and wearable.
