A Favourite Ring Recreated in Gold

A much-loved silver ring was carefully recreated in gold using the client’s own old jewellery, transforming a favourite everyday design into a more precious and lasting piece.

Design Development & Brief

The client had a favourite silver ring she loved to wear, but wanted a more precious version made in gold. Rather than creating a completely new design, the brief was to preserve the proportions, character and feel of the original ring while recreating it as a new piece using her own old gold.

The original ring provided the design reference, including the broad band, raised border details and decorative ribbon pattern. The aim was not to make a generic copy, but to carefully remake the piece in a material that held more personal and lasting value.

Inside the Workshop

The client’s old gold was assessed, weighed and melted down before being worked into new material for the ring. The band was formed by hand, shaped to match the broad profile of the original, then refined through careful soldering, filing and finishing.

The decorative details were created and fitted separately, including the rope-style edging and repeating ribbon border. Each element had to be shaped, aligned and assembled at the bench so the finished ring retained the feel of the original while becoming a new, handmade gold piece.

The Finished Piece

The finished ring kept the design the client already loved, but gave it new permanence and value in gold. By using her own old jewellery, the piece became more than a remake — it carried material from her past into something she could continue to wear and enjoy.

This project shows how transformation does not always mean changing everything. Sometimes the most meaningful commission is about preserving what already works, while recreating it in a stronger, more personal and more enduring form.
