A Multi-Sapphire Dress Ring

This handcrafted two-tone sapphire ring was created using sapphires mined by the client's family. Featuring a deep blue emerald-cut sapphire surrounded by smaller green sapphires, the design combines sentimental gemstones with contemporary hand-fabricated craftsmanship. Every element was made and assembled by hand in our workshop.

Design Development & Brief

The client wanted to showcase a collection of sapphires that they had mined on a family property. The design centered around a striking deep blue emerald-cut sapphire, complemented by six smaller green sapphires selected from the same collection.

Several concepts were explored before settling on a contemporary two-tone design featuring a yellow gold band with white gold accents. The finished piece was designed to highlight the natural variation of the sapphires while creating a bold and wearable dress ring.

Inside the Workshop

Rather than using a cast setting, the ring was fabricated from raw gold stock. The yellow gold band was formed and shaped by hand before individual white gold bars were fitted across the shoulders of the ring.

A hand-fabricated bezel was constructed for the emerald-cut centre sapphire, with decorative pierced openings cut into the ends of the setting. The green sapphires were individually set into the white gold shoulder sections before final assembly, finishing and polishing.

The combination of family-mined sapphires, hand-fabricated goldwork and custom stone setting resulted in a design that could never be replicated from a catalogue. Every component was individually made and assembled to showcase the beauty and story behind the stones.
