Handcrafted pieces are my passion and specialty. I have made hundreds of bespoke rings, pendants and earrings over the years - traditional, modern and unique - no matter your budget, the stones or the metal - I'm looking forward to working with you! All meetings and design work are free of charge. If you live interstate or can't come to meet me? It doesn't matter - by using internet, phone calls and skype I have done work for clients all around the country.
It's never too early to start your planning when it comes to your making your special piece. It might take several weeks to find the diamond or stones you like and a week or two of designing before you are ready to go ahead. Although I can do "rush" jobs - I usually quote a 8-10 week turn around for custom made pieces - sometimes longer if there is engraving or you want a valuation.
Custom Designed Jewellery - The Process
Our First Meeting
You might ring me or contact me via email. If you are just starting out and still unsure about you want I am happy to give you some things to think about but will recommend a face-to-face or zoom appointment where we can talk in-depth and do some drawings. In person appointments can be at your home or a local coffee shop. We can continue to refine these and consider options until you have a one or two that you are happy with. I will be able to provide you with a "rough" quote based on your chosen design and proposed stone type & sizes (the final quote may depend on the stones).
Choosing the Stones
Large Diamonds and coloured gemstones are usually ordered in on "approval". Once they are ordered we have 1 week to view them and make a decision. If they are not right or you are not ready, they get sent back to the suppliers at no charge. If you pick one to keep and use, then a deposit is required.
The Quote
Once all the stones are decided and we know exactly what you want (ie metal type, band thickness, final design approved etc) I can provide you with an final quote. Often I can provide an updated, more detailed design/drawing to view.
The Making
Once you are happy to go-ahead, a 50% deposit is required and I will start your pieces. Once completed I will arrange to either have it delivered, post it to you or meet you somewhere for pickup.
Valuations
We will provide you with a comprehensive sales certificate describing the metal and stones used and retail price. This is not a valuation. Jewellers who are not trained valuers cannot provide a legal valuation, this must be done by a valuer who is registered by the NCJV (National Council of Jewellery Valuers). We are happy to arrange an independent valuation for you or point you in the right direction.
Handmade Jewellery
For one-off custom pieces, I prefer to make jewellery by hand. Traditional bench skills allow me to shape, forge and finish the metal in a way that creates strength, longevity and character that machine-made pieces often lack. Hand-fabrication is a specialised skill that is becoming rare in the industry — it takes years of trade training, and the final product reflects that.
With hand-making, I have full control at every stage of the process: adjusting angles, tension, metal thickness and stone security as the piece evolves. This results in jewellery that not only looks beautiful, but is structurally robust, easy to maintain over time, and genuinely unique — not just a duplicate from a digital file.
When jewellery is hand-fabricated — formed by hammering, bending, soldering and finishing by hand — the metal is work-hardened at each stage, resulting in a structure that is inherently more robust than cast or mass-produced pieces. In fact, some experienced jewellers estimate the strength of a fully hand-fabricated piece can be up to 50% greater than comparable cast work, as hand-making avoids the microscopic porosity and weaker points introduced by mould-casting.
However, the most important thing is always the right outcome for you — and that means selecting the method that delivers the best balance of beauty, strength and practicality for your piece.
CAD Designed Jewellery
CAD stands for Computer-Aided Design — digital jewellery created using specialised software.
It offers advantages, particularly for precision, perfect symmetry, realistic 3D visualisation, faster production times, and lower costs, since it requires fewer labour hours.
The process still begins the same way: I consult with you to develop the initial concepts and drawings. I then collaborate with a specialist CAD designer to create a detailed digital 3D model, allowing you to see — and approve — a photorealistic preview before the piece is made. The approved model is 3D printed in wax, which is then melted away to form a mould. Molten metal is poured into the mould to cast the piece, which is then assembled, stones set, and carefully finished and polished.
