Lately I have been getting a lot of requests to make Engagement rings and/ or Wedding rings out of old gold. For some people, this is a reflection of the current economic climate and for others it's about giving sentimental items another life. It's a great way to cut down on costs by recycling gold, and any semi-precious or precious gems. I've just added a video of a melt and remake of a bangle I did last year that you might like to look at to see how it's done.
I love re-using old jewellery and turning them into something new, however there are things to be aware of.
1. The quality and carat of the gold you have.
2. The amount of gold you have.
I hope that this has helped clear up a few questions about melting down old gold to re-use, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
This second-half of the year has started off with a big emphasis on Engagement rings. I love working with people in planning, designing and making their engagement rings. Whether it's the couple who have come in together knowing exactly what they want or the unsure boyfriend who really doesn't have any idea of where to start and wants to keep it a big surprise, it's one of my favourite requests. I particularly enjoy educating people about rings, stones and metals. The benefits of handmade vs cast - how much more stable the setting is and how it increases the life of the ring; and the different metals available and which one might be best for their lifestyle, work and ring design.
I'm always happy to give an obligation free quote and answer any questions you might have. If you are emailing me - details such as ring size, stone types and size, budget and any pictures of designs you like are very helpful - but if you are not sure about these I can talk you through your options!
